Corvette Racing has proven itself for the past 10 years. Since it's debute
in 1999 with the C5-R, all the way to the end of the GT1 class comepeting C6-R in 2009, Corvette Racing has accomplished 77
race wins, 54 1-2 finishes, 8 GT1 manufacture championships, 7 GT1 drivers championships, 6 24hrs of LeMans class wins, 7
12hrs of Sebring wins, and 7 Petit Lemans class wins,
With
the move to a GT2 category, Corvette Racing's C6.R race cars will compete against rivals representing Ferrari, Porsche,
BMW, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Viper, Panoz, and Ford.
Based
on the Corvette ZR1 supercar, the next-generation Corvette C6.R has even stronger links to the production version of America's
performance icon than its predecessors. The GT2 rules require the use of many production-based components, expanding the opportunities
for the two-way transfer of technology between the race track and the showroom. The updated Corvette C6.R utilizes the ZR1's
body design, aerodynamic package, aluminum frame and chassis structure, steering system, windshield, and other components.
The race team has prepared the cars for the rigors of endurance racing with safety and performance modifications as permitted
by the GT2 rules.
For 2009 the engine will be the same Katch 7.0L LS7.R
as the GT1 car with a different crankshaft, reducing the engine to 6.0L For 2010 the new GT2 rules only allow 5.5L.
Therefore the new engine will be a 5.5L based off of the LS3 production engine. This engine will be built in house at
the Wixom Performance Build Center.
